All day, Saturday 5th July
All day, Sunday 6th July
Here Is Hope

Join Threads in the Ground at the Sanctuary of the Hopeful Sun all weekend, they will be exploring future food systems and the superpowers of fungi!

Threads in the Ground believe in climate hope and they use creative and community engagement to inspire hopeful action in the face of the climate crisis.

They use creative engagement to explore climate futures and inspire communities to be good ancestors for future generations. Find out more about the workshops they’ll be hosting below.

Mycelium Brick Casting

Mushroom Sculpt is a climate hope education project like no other – a chance for you to play and experiment with your climate futures.

We work with schools and community groups to design sculpture trails and installations grown from fungus.

We’ve brought a selection of sculptures and objects to the festival for you to touch and explore.

We’ll help you cast your own 'brick' using recovered butter tubs, to take home and grow, whilst we tell you the ancient story of fungus and the superpowers the fungal kingdom can bring to the climate crisis.

Sustainable Sausage

Make some bean, quorn, or insect sausages and explore the stories of our food system.

The sausage was invented around 5,000 years ago in Mesopotamia.

The British Public eat more than 175,000 tonnes of sausages annually.

Humans have taken sausages into space.

What does the sausage of the future look like?!

We’ll help you to stuff your own sausage to take home and eat, while we chat about our food system and what it might become.

What protein will you choose to fill your sustainable sausage?

Fancy a nibble of some spiced crickets or mealworms?

Or some quorn - invented right here in the North of England?

Or play it safe with beans - the superfood that could regenerate our soils.

Our food system will transform within our lifetimes. What do you want it to look like?
